The High Commission for the Development of Arriyadh (ADA) has been established for the development of the Kingdom’s capital in all its economic, social, cultural, architectural and environmental aspects. The commission is responsible also for drawing policies and procedures, and conducting planning works and studies, aiming to raise the efficiency of services and facilities connected with raising the living standard of citizens and their welfare.

The Smart Cities initiative:
This forum is organized as part of the Smart Cities initiative, which aims to transform Saudi Arabia's major cities to smart cities. Smart cities are generally characterized by the availability of advanced broadband communications services and effective electronic applications that help bridge the “digital divide” and improve the economic competence in these cities. Moreover, wireless technologies, notably WiFi-Mesh and WiMax technologies, have gained great momentum by cities around the world as quick and effective technologies for enabling municipal networks.
The Forum, which is planned to include a strong international participation from experts around the globe, will mark the kick-off of a national initiative for the ITC-enablement of Saudi Cities, starting with Riyadh, the capital. The event is anticipated to play an important role in streamlining efforts by various government and private sector entities to help arrive at the right successful and sustainable business model for cities in the region. Moreover, preliminary prototypes and proof of concept projects will be presented to the audience to stimulate the dialogue and present lessons learned.
