Prince Salman to inaugurate the Smart Cities Forum, the Largest event of its kind in the Middle East:
His Royal Highness Prince Salman Bin Abdulaziz, the Governor of Riyadh Region will inaugurate on Tuesday 6 th February 2007, the Smart Cities Forum. The event  is considered  to be the largest event of its kind in the Middle East. It  is held in Riyadh, the center of the largest and fastest growing ICT market in the region. The Forum is attracting many high level officials, executives, ICT experts and professionals from government and private sectors.
Distinguished Expert Speakers:
The Smart Cities Forum program will include exploring presentations and discussions dedicated to Smart Cities issues. Expert and specialist speakers from leading industry and government bodies will address the latest  technologies, strategies and new trends. Furthermore, case studies and lessons learned will be highlighted. The event will witness participation of International speakers from: Intel, Civitium, Hopling Technologies, Devoteam, Strix Systems, and BelAir Networks

Advanced Technologies and Successful Case Studies:
The main topics of the Forum will include: planning smart cities projects, ICT infrastructure and  wireless networks technologies, International experiences and lessons learned, Smart homes & schools, and Killer applications; What makes a city really smart A highly focused exhibition will be running in parallel with the Forum. Sponsors of the forum will participate in the exhibition to showcase the latest technology, solutions, products, and services.

The Smart Cities initiative:
This forum is organized as part of the Smart Cities initiative, which aims to transform Saudi Arabia's major cities to smart cities. Smart cities are generally characterized by the availability of advanced broadband communications services and effective electronic applications that help bridge the “digital divide” and improve the economic competence in these cities. Moreover, wireless technologies, notably WiFi-Mesh and WiMax technologies, have gained great momentum by cities around the world as quick and effective technologies for enabling municipal networks.
The Forum, which is planned to include a strong international participation from experts around the globe, will mark the kick-off of a national initiative for the ITC-enablement of Saudi Cities, starting with Riyadh, the capital. The event is anticipated to play an important role in streamlining efforts by various government and private sector entities to help arrive at the right successful and sustainable business model for cities in the region. Moreover, preliminary prototypes and proof of concept projects will be presented to the audience to stimulate the dialogue and present lessons learned.
